For many pre- and postdoctoral researchers, transitioning from academia to industry or other non-academic sectors requires more than simply applying for new roles. It also means learning how to present your experience in a different way. Academic CVs typically provide a comprehensive overview of publications, research projects, and teaching activities. In contrast, employers outside academia expect a focused, concise, and results-oriented CV that clearly demonstrates how your skills and experience add value to their organization.
In this Expert Talk, Yasmin Dolak-Struss shared practical insights and guidance on how to successfully position yourself for roles in industry and other sectors. The session explored best practices for the job search and provides strategies for adapting your CV so that it aligns with the expectations of non-academic employers.
In our Workshop on March 18th we focused on how to analyze job ads, identify and communicate transferable skills and position academic experience for roles outside academia. Through interactive exercises, peer exchange, and expert input, the workshop supported researchers in refining their CV, strengthening their job‑search strategy, and prepared for interviews.
