Leading beyond authority

This workshop explores the concept of Leading Beyond Authority – leading without formal managerial authority, also known as lateral leadership. The focus is on practical approaches and methods for fostering collaboration, exerting influence and providing leadership in complex, interdisciplinary and non-hierarchical environments.

Who is the trainer?

Dipl.-Ing. (FH) Karin Ungar, MSc is a Reflective Practice Facilitator, Executive Coach, Team Coach and Organisational Consultant working with leaders, experts and teams in research, technology and innovation. She brings more than 18 years of professional experience as a geospatial data scientist, team leader and project manager in the field of data science, combining technical expertise with systemic and psychodynamic consulting approaches. In her consulting practice she supports experts working in universities, public sector organisations and technology-oriented companies. Her areas of expertise include the development of lateral leadership capabilities, supporting experts transitioning into leadership roles and facilitating reflection on team and organisational dynamics in complex, knowledge-intensive environments.

Who can join?

This training course is designed for researchers who have initial or advanced leadership responsibilities and are affiliated with a university in Austria. It is particularly relevant for research group leaders, Principal Investigators (PIs), junior and senior professors, project leaders, consortium coordinators, heads of research units or labs, as well as senior postdoctoral researchers with team or project responsibility.

The program is especially suited for those who represent teams, manage staff, and regularly negotiate with university leadership, funding bodies, or collaborative partners in academic and research contexts.
